This self defense guide will teach you how to disarm an attacker with a chair. You apply the same principles with any blunt force weapons namely a baseball bat (see "http://everythingselfdefense.blogspot.com/2016/12/self-defense-against-baseball-bat.html" 1) Control distance 2) Close the gap and intercept 3) Control the weapon 4) Disarm.
1) Control the distance - Stay within a certain distance away from the chair. If you are too close, you will get hit. If you are too far, you will also get hit eventually.
2) Close the gap and intercept the attack - The best way to attack is before or after an attack. You must not hesitate to commit to intercepting your attacker. Timing is critical.
3) Control the weapon - With both hands, grab the chair and rotate it upwards or downwards.
4) Disarm - When your attacker's hands are loosened due to the pressure, pull away forcefully. You can use kicks to create distance between you and the attacker.
Keep in mind a chair can be used as a projectile so you will have to evade it at a certain range. Practice these principles with a sparring partner carefully.
